Making Zen Retreat

I’m thrilled to share something special with you — a whole week of free online art classes happening October 27–31!

My dear friend and fellow artist Kate Ward, who lives in Nova Scotia, has put together this incredible Making Zen Online Retreat celebrating textile and paper art. She’s gathered 30 artists from around the world, each teaching inspiring classes — from rug hooking and textile journals to paper weaving, embroidery, and more.

And yes — all classes are completely free!

I’ll be teaching a session on how to make a Geometric Paper Mobile — I can’t wait to share it with you.

Here’s how it works:

  • You can sign up for the retreat and watch 6 classes per day (Monday–Friday).

  • Each class will be available for 24 hours for free.

  • If you’d like lifetime access (or just want to watch at your own pace), you can purchase a VIP Pass.

Creating Eco Mobiles with Paula Hartmann

Let’s turn “junk” into joy! Using real rye straw from the fields, paper, and all sorts of recycled treasures, we’ll dream up mobiles that dance with personality. Bring anything you’d love to transform—beads, noodles, fabric scraps, old jewelry (the wilder the better!). Plus, guest speaker Sophie Jacazio will spark our imaginations with fresh ideas on recycling and upcycling.

Join us on October 19th at the Back Alley Gallery in Hamilton! You can register your spot here!

I’m showing six of my nine geometric hanging sculptures from the installation Invisible Currents. This work was inspired by the unseen forces that move through our lives—whether that’s wind, gravity, or the more subtle emotional and spiritual currents that shape who we are.

The sculptures are made of repeating geometric forms—delicate frameworks of triangles, diamonds, and prisms. Their symmetry offers a sense of order and stability, but because they’re suspended and lightweight, they are constantly shifting. I love this balance between precision and fluidity: the clear structure of geometry held within the softness of movement.

For me, Invisible Currents is about reminding us that much of what shapes our world is not visible to the eye, but felt. These works invite you to slow down, to notice the delicate balance of form and motion, and maybe to consider the invisible forces at play in your own life.
